8-Bit Pickers: 8 Bits, 3 Dimensions, Willy Wonka & Spock
While this site caters pretty heavily to the video game nerdery that binds us all together, 8-bit culture has taken on more aspects of pop culture than just Mario, Link and friends.
A great case in point is an amazing studio called 8 Bits, 3 Dimensions, a partnership between two artists that takes a watercolor interpretation of a pop culture image and transforms it into a 3-D sculpture. Cooler still, that 3-D sculpture is printed via 3-D printing technology and made available for purchase.
Obviously, the collection could use a little more video game character representation. Maybe the iconic cover art to Super Mario Brothers? Maybe a classic slice of Link in any of his incarnations? I would even settle for a blurry blue hedgehog and the hint of a ring or two.
ET I suppose could be construed as a little nerdy, but I don’t think that quite cuts it. There is one piece in particular though that certainly crosses over that line (though not my cup of tea at all).
Make It Yours
Each piece retails for $89 and comes as a 3-D printed sandstone sculpture. I certainly can’t think of a classier way to convince your girlfriend to display Star Trek art in the house.
